There has been a lot to take in, check, and adjust. Many industries have shifted production, shifted production sites, and altered their operations to meet the needs of their company and clients. While every industry is different, one thing is consistent across all industries: mobile power generation equipment needs to remain mobile. And, this means ensuring that the trailers used to move generators from Point A to Point B are in proper working order. If you haven't checked your trailers lately, there is no time like the present to ensure your equipment is ready to roll when you are ready to move it down the road.

Maintaining Your Generator Trailers

The following are systems and checks you should regularly perform on your mobile power generation equipment trailer:

• Brakes - Inspect brakes before each relocation and perform a thorough inspection of the magnets and brake controller every 6 months (or 6,000 miles.) You should perform a brake adjustment every 3 months (or 3,000 miles), and you should inspect and adjust brake cylinders and brake linings every 12 months (or 12,000 miles). Finally, inspect brake lines for leaks and cracks every 12 months (or 12,000 miles.)


• Wiring - Inspect wiring for damage, paying particular attention to frayed spots, bare spots, and loose connections that could diminish reliability.


• Seals - Inspect seals for leaks every 12 months (or 12,000 miles) and replace them if damaged.


• Trailer Springs & Suspension - Inspect for wear and tear that diminishes the arch every 12 months (or 12,000 miles.) confirm all fasteners and other components are not bent or loose every 12 months (or 12,000 miles.)


• Hangers - Confirm welds are firm and secure every 12 months (or 12,000 miles.)


• Wheels - Confirm wheel nuts and bolts are tightened to manufacturer specifications every 6 months (or 6,000 miles.) Inspect wheel bearings and cups for signs of corrosion and repack them every 12 months (or 12,000 miles.) Confirm wheels are not cracked, dented, or distorted every 6 months (or 6,000 miles.)


• Tires - Make sure tires are properly inflated and are not warped, rotted, or leaking air every 3 months (or 3,000 miles). Ideally, all tires should be visually inspected before each relocation. You should also have the tires balanced and aligned any time the trailer has traversed rough ground, and ideally, every 12 months (or 12,000 miles.)


• Lights - Confirm signal lights aren't missing or cracked and that all wiring is properly connected and tightened every 3 months or (3,000 miles.) Ideally, this should also be performed prior to every relocation.
